In Perth our Centre is based in Highland House, St Catherine's Road and you are welcome to pop in at any time during office hours. We can help you get a better idea of suitable careers options, valuable skills in career planning and job search and a better understanding of yourself and relevant opportunities. We also provide practical assistance such as developing a CV, completing application forms and preparing for interviews. Dundee University In Perth, Dundee University's Continuing Education Department offers a variety of courses for adults, in the arts and social sciences. We also run The World About Us series of lectures in which participants can learn about a host of interesting topics - from local and ancient history, to geography, horticulture and art. On the University campus in Dundee, the Courses for Adults Programme includes over two hundred courses annually, nearly all of which are open to everyone over 16. If you want to learn a new language, take up outdoor sketching, find out how to make the most of your home computer or study archaeology, the University has a course for you. The University's Wider Access Study Centre offers a range of courses including a Summer School for students without the required exam grades who wish to earn a full-time undergraduate place at the University. In addition, the Flexible and Advanced Entry and Continuing Education Units can help you to decide on courses, whether you're a complete beginner wanting to pursue an interest or keen to embark on a part-time degree course. Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service Ltd PKAVS (Perth & Kinross Association of Voluntary Service Limited) and its projects, including the CVS and the Volunteer Centre, are based in The Gateway in North Methven Street, Perth. The CVS (Council of Voluntary Service) provides 'business advice' to the voluntary and community sector, supporting organisations throughout their lifespan, providing affordable training; work on constitutions and legal status issues; help in tracing funding sources and in writing applications; and advice on both best practice and compliance with the law. The Volunteer Centre assists organisations to attract and find new volunteers and helps potential volunteers to find work in the sector suitable to their needs and wishes. Perth and Kinross Council Community Centres Throughout Perth and Kinross there are a number and range of personal and social development courses and learning opportunities for you to access. Please contact your local centre to find out what may be available for you. Spread throughout Perth and Kinross there are ten adult education associations offering a wide range of leisure classes to their members. These are run by voluntary committees who, using their local knowledge, offer courses suited to their community. The classes normally take place in the evening using community halls and local schools where the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Subjects typically include local history, dance, aerobics, arts, crafts, languages and environmental subjects. Perth College As one of Scotland's leading colleges of further and higher education, we provide a wide range of education and training opportunities, with everything from one-day courses to degrees on offer. As we are very much a community college, we have developed a network of Learning Centres throughout Perth & Kinross, to give people access to education and training in their own communities. If you'd like to study from your own home or workplace without the commitment of coming to the College, then our Distance Learning courses can help. The Learning Curve This is the place to come to if you would like help with anything to do with reading, writing, spelling or numbers - but don't know where to start! We're based in the AK Bell library, Perth - just follow the sign in the foyer - and we can help you to get started along the path to learning. The Learning Curve is a place for you to come and learn either one to one or as part of a small, friendly group. As part of the local Literacies Partnership, we can also offer advice on where is best to get help with reading, writing, spelling or numbers - all depending on your needs. |
